Touring Is Hard and Band Therapists Are Here to Help – VICE Interview

These mental health professionals know what it feels like when the van breaks down, when the booker shorts the fee, or when your drummer is just being a dick.

I am proud of the work I do with artists, musicians and bands and how I’ve been able to blend my previous career as a music industry executive with my current career as a psychotherapist.
Life on the road takes a huge toll on artists and musicians not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Although rewarding in some respects, touring can be a tough life.
Luke Winkie from VICE interviewed me as well as a colleague of mine, Tamsin Embleton, for the article below about touring musicians and therapists who work with musicians and bands. Tamsin started an incredible organization called The Music Industry Therapist Collective (MITC). We are a very specialized group of therapists and coaches who were all previously in the music industry.
More awareness and accessible resources are needed for musicians, artists, and bands in order to provide essential mental health and substance abuse support. We are collectively working to make that happen.
